Mental Health Outreach Support - Professionals' survey
Overview
Surrey County Council is currently planning a formal approach to the market for Outreach services for people with mental health needs. This will form part of a wider 'Opportunities for Everyday Living' tender process*. Part of this planning involves engaging with stakeholders, including people who draw on outreach services themselves, as well as relevant professionals, to get feedback on what good outreach looks like.
What are we calling 'Outreach'?
Flexible and adaptable person-centred support provided to individuals in their own home and in the community to support their wellbeing and develop or maintain independence. This may include for example:
- Assistance with finances
- Support to maintain a tenancy
- Support with life skills (such as cooking, cleaning, completing paperwork or managing a home)
- Emotional support and confidence building
- Help to develop friendships and social connections
- Support to attend activities and appointments.
Outreach is not the same as Care at Home (also known as Home Based Care), which is typically focused on daily living tasks e.g. dressing, bathing, toileting, transferring/functional mobility.

What happens next
All feedback is anonymous and will be collated to identify themes and trends. This information will then be used to help shape a service specification which defines what Surrey County Council expects outreach providers to deliver and how it expects them to work with people with mental health needs to achieve their individual outcomes.
