Amalgamation of Hope Epsom and Hope Guildford

Closed 7 Oct 2015

Opened 23 Sep 2015

Feedback Updated 25 Oct 2017

We Asked

Should we amalgamate The Hope, Epsom with The Hope, Guildford to become one pupil referral unit (PRU), with one establishment number, but based across two sites.  Pupil admissions would remain unchanged, and the existing single management committee would continue to oversee both centres; there would be no change to existing staffing structures or working arrangements.  By being registered as a single PRU, the service would receive a single Ofsted inspection, instead of two.

Hope is a multi-agency service for young people aged 11-18 with complex mental health, emotional, social and education needs.  It is a joint partnership between Surrey County Council and the Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

The service is based over two sites: West Park, Epsom, and Worplesdon Road, Guildford.

The Hope service is operated by a single management committee, headteacher and teaching, medical and support staff that work across both sites.  Each site currently has its own registration as a pupil referral unit (PRU); both sites are therefore subject to separate Ofsted inspections.

Our proposal is that Hope Epsom and Hope Guildford both amalgamate to become one PRU, operating as a single establishment but based across two sites.

Pupil admissions will continue unchanged, and the current management committee, staffing structures and working arrangements will remain as they are now.

We are proposing that this change takes place from 1 January 2016.
