We asked

Do you agree with the proposal to open a new specialist centre at Worplesdon Primary School from September 2020?

You said

There was one response to the statutory notice: this respondent advised that they did not know whether they agree or disagree with the proposal.

The comments advised that they have had ‘bad’ experiences with units at mainstream schools previously and therefore unsure about whether a specialist centre should open at Worplesdon Primary School.

We did

We will now approach the Cabinet Member for approval of the proposal to open a specialist centre from September 2020 at Worplesdon Primary School.

Overview

Surrey County Council in liaison with Worplesdon Primary School and Freemantles School, is proposing to open a specialist Special Education Needs and Disability (SEND) centre for pupils with Communication and Interaction Needs (COIN).

It is proposed that Freemantles School and Worplesdon Primary School work in partnership to host a specialist Special Education Needs and Disability (SEND) centre for 21 pupils on the site at Worplesdon Primary School. The staff would benefit from supervision and training as employees of Freemantles School but would be based in the centre at Worplesdon Primary School. All pupils admitted to the centre would have an EHCP specifying the centre as an appropriate placement to meet their individual needs. It is anticipated that the centre would be organised with 3 places per year group. A bespoke building would be provided for the specialist centre and located within the school grounds.

Surrey County Council, Worplesdon Primary School and Freemantles School would like to seek your views on this proposal.  The statutory notice will be published 23rd September 2019 for representations.
