Surrey’s Social Value Recognition Awards 2019

Free to enter and open to all businesses in Surrey who engage in ‘social value’ initiatives that support local communities through staff activities, resources, policies, practices and fundraising donations, etc.

The awards are an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the positive impact that Surrey businesses (from micro to multinational) have on the people and places within their local communities.

Last year’s winners included:

Large Enterprise Winner: Pfizer, for using their professional skills and expertise to support charitable organisations in the community. They offered a range of marketing and business skills to help local charities improve their communications, collaborations and sustainability. Pfizer have also supported Voluntary Action Reigate and Banstead to pilot schemes that could be replicated with other large business. This support was recognised for helping the voluntary sector not just now, but into the future as well.

SME Winner:  Chipstead Golf Club, a small organisation which made significant contributions to their local community. Parent-led charity InterAKtive nominated the Club as the parents wanted to thank Chipstead Golf Club for all their efforts in helping raise awarness of Autism. The Club made a great difference to the lives of local children with Autism and their families by supporting a range of activities from day trips, to therapy sessions, to respite care, to family support.

The deadline for entries is 5pm on Friday 1^st November

Winners will receive a ‘Surrey Social Value 2019’ certificate and £100, curtesey of sponsor Balfour Beatty, to donate to a charity of their choice.

All winners will be presented with their awards at the prestigious We Are Surrey social value event on Wednesday 13^th November 2019, at Guildford Cathedral. 

How to Enter:

Entry is simple – just explain what you have done and the impact it has had on your local community – the people &/or the place.

We are Surrey is the annual business event focused on social value and CSR which aims to inspire new thinking about the opportunities and benefits that social value can bring to your business and to the communities in which it operates.  In addition, it is a forum to make new connections with over 40 local community organisations and charities.

Who should enter?
 

• All private sector companies from sole traders, micro businesses, SMEs, up to Multi-National Corporations.
• Companies must be based in Surrey.
• All entries should register to attend We Are Surrey where the winners will be announced.

Why should you enter?
 

• To showcase the social value culture of your company.  Your story may help inspire other Surrey businesses to do the same.

• Social Value – business must evidence how their staff activities or business practice/procedures positively impact the lives of Surrey people and places

What is social value?

• An organisation’s Social Value is the positive impact they make because of how they conduct their business.
• It’s more than being socially focused - it is about making a conscious effort to ensure that the wider effects of how business is conducted is positive, and contributes to the long-term wellbeing and resilience of individuals, communities and society in general. Social value is how organisations take into account the wider economic, social and environmental effects of its actions.

When will the award winners be announced?
