Overview

Thank you for your interest in our Speed Limit proposals in A30 London Road and Blacknest Road .

The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.

The proposal:

RSS0560 – A30 London Road, Egham to Virginia Water

It is proposed that the existing derestricted (60mph) speed limit on the A30 London Road between current 40mph speed limits near Junction. St. David’s Drive, Egham and approximately 160 metres north of the Junction with B389 Christchurch Road, Virginia Water will be reduced to 40mph. This is a length of approximately 1,600m.

It is proposed that the existing derestricted (60mph) speed limit on the A30 London Road between the current 40mph speed limits approximately 150 metres south of the Junction with A329 Blacknest Road and approximately 160 metres west of its Junction with West Drive. This is a length of approximately 1,475m.

Runnymede Road Safety Working Group, which comprises of Surrey County Council Road Safety and Traffic Engineers along with Surrey Police Road Safety Traffic Management and Casualty Reduction Officers expressed concern that vehicle speeds were contributing to loss of control, shunt and other vehicle conflicts.

Speed surveys were conducted at five locations in June 2022. Mean vehicle speeds at all five locations comply with the current speed limit policy, Surrey County Council’s Policy Setting Local Speed Limits. Surrey Police support the speed limit reduction from 60mph to 40mph at these two lengths.
