Overview

Thank you for your interest in our speed limit proposal in Kingston Road, Leatherhead.

The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.

The proposal:

It is proposed to reduce the existing speed limit of 60mph to a 40mph speed limit on the A243 Kingston Road, Leatherhead between the existing derestricted / 40mph terminal signs, which is approx. 200 metres north of the junction with Junction 9 of the M25 roundabout and the existing derestricted / 40mph terminal signs, which is approx. 80 metres south of the junction with Epsom Gap.

Surrey County Council engineers raised concerns about various collisions of trend, vehicle speeds and safety concerns within the derestricted (60mph) section on Kingston Road. A speed limit assessment has been carried out on Kingston Road following the processes set out in Surrey County Council’s Policy Setting Local Speed Limits. A reduction of the speed limit on Kingston Road between the existing derestricted / 40mph terminal signs north of the junction with Junction 9 of the M25 roundabout and the existing derestricted / 40mph terminal signs south of the junction with Epsom Gap complies with the policy and is supported by Surrey Police. Mole Valley Local Committee agreed at their meeting on 9 December 2020 that the speed limit on Kingston Road between the existing derestricted / 40mph terminal signs north of the junction with Junction 9 of the M25 roundabout and the existing derestricted / 40mph terminal signs south of the junction with Epsom Gap be reduced to 40mph.
