Overview
Thank you for your interest in our One-Way proposals in Mill Lane & Station Approach Godalming.
The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.
The proposal:
The County Council are promoting the above draft Order on safety and
environmental grounds.
Consequently, it is proposed to impose a One-Way System on the following
roads:
Mill Lane (D5421) - Between D5421 Mint Street, Godalming (from junction
with) to D5421 Station Approach, Godalming (length 142.0m approx.) and
Station Approach (D5421) - Between D5421 Mill Lane, Godalming to D5421
Station Road, Godalming (junction with) (length 161.0m approx.)
The current footway provision for pedestrians walking to and from Godalming
Station is compromised by narrow or missing pavements, with few formal or
informal crossing points to access the station pedestrian area, and
pedestrians having to negotiate around two-way traffic that is itself negotiating
narrow roadspace in places.
Improving pedestrian accessibility to and from Godalming Station will provide
a better, more accessible, and safer walking environment for pedestrians to
walk to and from the station, promote active travel and encourage safer
practices for all users of the roads and pavements in the vicinity of the station.
