Newchapel Road, West Park Road and Eastbourne Road - Speed Limit Proposals
Overview
Thank you for your interest in our speed limit proposals on Newchapel Road, West Park Road and Eastbourne Road.
The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.
The proposal:
It is proposed to reduce the existing 50mph speed limit to a 40mph speed limit throughout the sections of highway detailed above.
The proposed reduced 40mph speed limits on the B2028 would be from a point approximately 10m northeast of the junction with Willow Tree Nursery on Newchapel Road southwest to its roundabout junction with the A22, then on from the A22 junction on West Park Road to a point approximately 30m southwest of junction with Domewood, where the existing 40mph terminal sign are located.
A22 roundabout junction speed limit will be reduced from 50mph to 40mph from points 60m north and 320m south of the roundabout junction with the B2028.
Surrey County Council engineers raised concerns about various collisions, vehicle speeds and safety concerns within the B2028. A speed limit assessment has been carried out on the B2028 and following the processes set out in Surrey County Council’s Policy for Setting Local Speed Limits. A reduction of the speed limit on B2028 Newchapel Road and West Park Road complies with the policy and is supported by Surrey Police and Local Members for the reduction to 40mph
