Old Portsmouth Road, Guildford Road and Meadrow Safety Proposals

Closes 13 Dec 2024

Opened 14 Nov 2024

Overview

Thank you for your interest in our proposals to build four signalised crossings and six raised tables (traffic calming features) along the A3100 Old Portsmouth Road, Guildford Road and Meadrow. The raised tables proposed are in the side roads/accesses at junctions with the A3100, not on the A3100 itself.

The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.

The proposal:

It is proposed to build signalised crossings and raised tables on side roads/accesses along A3100 Old Portsmouth Road, Guildford Road and Meadrow. Further details including the precise locations are shown on the Plans included below. These proposals form part of the Guildford to Godalming Greenway (walking and cycling improvements) scheme. The scheme aims to deliver safer and more attractive active travel facilities, overcoming existing barriers to walking, wheeling and cycling associated with substandard infrastructure.

Following an application to Active Travel England, Surrey County Council has secured funding to deliver a first phase of the Guildford to Godalming Greenway scheme. This includes plans along the A3100 between New Pond Road and Catteshall Road to widen and extend existing walking and cycling facilities, improve bus stops, as well as introduce the new signalised crossings and raised tables which are the subject of this consultation.

The proposed signalised crossings and raised tables are intended to improve safety, accessibility and journey quality for pedestrians and cyclists. The designs have been developed taking into consideration feedback from the overall scheme’s public consultation carried out in late 2021, as well as national design guidance.
