Parvis Road, West Byfleet 30mph speed limit proposal

Overview

Thank you for your interest in our 30MPH Speed Limit proposals in Parvis Road, West Byfleet.

The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.

The proposal:

As part of the redevelopment of the Broadoaks Estate a planning obligation was placed on the developer to construct a toucan crossing providing crossing facilities for both pedestrians and cyclists on this busy stretch of Parvis Road. The siting of the crossing gives pedestrians and cyclists on the southern side of Parvis Road an easy point of access to the park, church, school and shops which are located on the northern side.

The existing speed limit for Parvis Road varies between 30 miles per hour nearest the town centre and 40 miles per hour as one  approaches the town centre from the east. The change point for the 30 miles per hour speed limit  is currently set 42.5 metres east of  the centre line of Highfield Road. This is close to the midpoint of the proposed toucan crossing and to the east of this point the speed limit rises to 40 miles per hour. The change point  for the speed limit therefore needs to be altered in order to give drivers time to change their speed before reaching the crossing. The new change point will be set at a point 91.0 metres east of the centre line of Highfield Road.
