Shalford village traffic calming, 20mph zone and 30mph speed limit proposals
Overview
Thank you for your interest in our traffic calming and speed limit proposals in Shalford Village.
The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.
The proposal:
There have been several concerns raised by residents and Local Member that vehicles are speeding across Shalford Village.
Several speed surveys were carried out across Shalford and the results indicate that the speed limit in A281 Horsham Road, A248 Kings Road, A248 Christmas Hill and surrounding roads in Shalford can be reduced to 20mph and A248 Broadford Road can be reduced to 30mph with traffic calming measures following the processes set out in Surrey County Council’s Policy “Setting Local Speed Limits”. There have been several personal injury collisions during the last 3 years in Shalford.
A reduction in the speed limit to 30mph and 20mph on those roads comply with the policy and is supported by the Police.
Therefore, it is proposed to reduce the speed limits in A281 Horsham Road, A248 Kings Road, A248 Christmas Hill and surrounding roads to be 20mph with traffic calming measures and A248 Broadford Road to 30mph with traffic calming measures in order to both reduce speeds and the number of collisions.
