Overview

Thank you for your interest in our 30 mph Speed Limit proposals in Stroud Road Egham. 

The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.

The proposal:

The County Council are promoting the above draft Order on safety and environmental grounds. In particular to encourage drivers to reduce their speed further in advance of a sharp bend with several junctions on it. Consequently it is proposed to impose a 30 mph speed limit on the following road:

Stroude Road (C10) – Between the existing 30/40mph speed limit terminal at the northern end of the road, to a point 70m south east of the same existing speed limit terminals.

The imposition of lower speed limits can lead to a reduction in the number of road injury accidents if the speed limit is effective. Research published by the Department of the Environment, Transport and Regions (DETR) in ‘New Directions in Speed Management’ indicates that broadly each 1mph reduction in average speed can reduce accident frequency by up to 5%.
