Various Roads in Esher 20mph Speed Limit Proposal

Overview

Thank you for your interest in our 20mph Speed Limit proposals in Various Roads in Esher. 

The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.

The proposal:

he proposed speed limit adjustment on D6815 Claygate lane, D6816 Chesterfield Drive; D6817 Cumberland Drive; D6815 Hinchley Way; D6816 Severn Drive; and D6816 Hill Rise; is to encourage lower vehicle speeds and reduce the severity of any collisions by lowering the speed limit from 30mph to 20mph. The scheme has been promoted by the locally elected member and complies with Surrey County Council’s Setting local speed limits policy.

Speed surveys have been conducted at various locations. Mean vehicle speeds at locations comply with the current speed limit policy, Surrey County Council’s Policy Setting Local Speed Limits. Surrey Police support the speed limit reduction from 30mph to 20mph along these roads.

Delegated approval to proceed with these proposals and the associated TRO was received from the Highways Engagement & Commissioning Manager on 02 November 2022.
