Winkworth Road, Banstead - 20mph Speed Limit

Closed 22 Nov 2022

Opened 27 Oct 2022

Overview

Thank you for your interest in our Speed Reduction proposals in Winkworth Road (access roads), Banstead.

The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.

The proposal:

One of the road safety improvement schemes for the current financial year is the reduction of the existing 30mph speed limit to a 20mph speed limit on D2022 Winkworth Road access roads. It is expected that this scheme will be completed by the end of March 2023.

Reigate and Banstead Local Committee approved this scheme to be progressed, within the current financial year, on 28 February 2022.

Residents have previously raised concerns about the speed of traffic using the Winkworth Road access roads, particularly during peak periods when drivers use the access roads to “jump” the queue of traffic on the main Winkworth Road, despite the existing “no motor vehicles except for access” restriction.

As a result, speed limit assessments have been carried out on the Winkworth Road access roads following the processes set out in Surrey County Council’s Policy “Setting Local Speed Limits”. A reduction of the speed limit from 30mph to 20mph on the access roads complies with the policy for a 20mph speed limit and is supported by the police.

If you would like to object, support, or comment on the proposal, please use the Online Survey linked at the bottom of the page, or alternatively, write to:
