Early Years Expansion to Entitlements- Parent/ Carer Survey

Overview

Currently, all parents are entitled to 15 hours funded early education and childcare per week for 3 and 4 year olds. Parents who work for at least 16 hours a week at the national minimum/living wage and earn less than £100,000 adjusted net income per year are entitled to 30 hours early education and childcare for 3 and 4 year olds. Some parents of 2 year olds are entitled to 15 hours funded early education and childcare (FEET) per week if they receive some specific forms of support.

Future Funded Entitlement offer for Working Parents

In the Spring 2023 Budget the government announced several measures to support education and help parents with childcare so they can return to work. Eligible working parents will be able to access 30 hours of early years funded education and childcare per week, for 38 weeks of the year from the term after their child is 9 months old to when they start school.

The entitlement will be phased in as follows:

• From April 2024: eligible working parents of 2-year-olds can access 15 hours per week from the term after they turn two.
• From September 2024: eligible working parents of children aged 9 months up to 3-year-olds can access 15 hours per week from the term after they turn 9 months.
• From September 2025: eligible working parents of children under five can access 30 hours funded early education and childcare per week.

• September 2026:All schools able to offer 8am to 6pm wraparound care on their own or in a partnership.
