There were 181 responses to the consultation: 175 responses agreed with the proposal; 4 responses disagreed and 2 ‘did not know’.
The majority of respondents acknowledged the benefit of expanding Brooklands School in the local area. Respondents also recognised having this type of specialist provision in Surrey will help to prevent primary school aged children travelling to school out of their local area
The concerns raised were about staffing arrangements, any potential increase in traffic during drop off and collection periods and parking arrangements for additional staff.
The respondents that answered “Don’t know” were local residents. Their concerns were about the additional parking arrangements and the size of the expansion.
We did
The Cabinet Member has given approval of the Statutory Notice and the proposal to expand Brooklands from September 2020. Any relevant permanent planning application required for the expansion will be pursued and determined in accordance with relevant planning legislation.

Overview
Surrey County Council, in collaboration with Brooklands School in Reigate, is looking at how best to provide additional specialist school places in the local area.
Our proposal is to expand Brooklands School to create additional provision for children with a primary need of Autism Spectrum Disorder using an existing school site on Alexander Road in Reigate. It is proposed that the expansion will provide an additional 70 places. The school would expand its provision incrementally over a 3 to 4 year period, to eventually reach full capacity.
Surrey County Council and Brooklands School would like to seek your views on this proposal. The consultation opens on Monday 13 January 2020 and closes on Friday 14 February 2020.
A public meeting is planned at Brooklands School on Wednesday 5 February 2020 from 5.30pm - 6.30pm. The address is 27 Wray Park Road, Reigate, RH2 0DF. All are welcome to attend.

The deadline for returning/submitting consultation responses is Friday 14 February 2020.
What happens next
At the end of the consultation period, we will review all of the responses received and share these with the school and publish them on the Surrey Says website.
Subject to the views expressed, if the proposal is to proceed, the next stage would be for SCC to publish a Statutory Notice. This will be in a local newspaper, available at the school and on the Surrey Says website stating our intention to expand. There will be a four week statutory consultation period for further representations to be received by the Council.
All representations will be reviewed before a final decision is taken by the Cabinet Member for All-Age Learning in April 2020.
