Abinger Lane, Sutton Lane and Evelyn Cottages, Abinger 20mph and 30mph Speed Limit Proposal

Closed 28 Jan 2021

Overview

Thank you for your interest in our 20mph and 30mph Speed Limit Proposal proposals in Abinger Lane, Sutton Lane and Evelyn Cottages, Abinger.

The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.

The proposal:

It is proposed to reduce the existing speed 60mph/derestricted speed limit to a 20mph speed limit on the following sections of road:

C43 Abinger Lane – between the junction with Hollow Lane and a point 16m north-west of the north-west boundary of Rew Cottage.

D281 Sutton Lane – between the junction with Abinger Lane and a point 67m west of the entrance to Abinger Manor

D571 – Evelyn Cottages – entire length

It is proposed to reduce the existing speed 60mph/derestricted speed limit to a 30mph speed limit on the following section of road:

C43 Abinger Lane – between a point 16m north-west of the north west boundary of Rew Cottage and the junction with Raikes Lane.

Local residents, the parents of pupils at Surrey Hills Primary School and Abinger Parish Council raised concerns about the speed limit on Abinger Lane and Sutton Lane with the divisional member.   Speed limit assessments have been carried out on Abinger Lane and Sutton Lane following the processes set out in Surrey County Council’s Policy Setting Local Speed Limits.

A reduction in the speed limits of the sections of road listed above complies with the policy and is supported by the Police.  Mole Valley Local Committee agreed at their meeting on 17 June 2020 that the speed limits in sections of Abinger Lane and Sutton Lane and the entire length of Evelyn Cottages should be reduced to 20mph, and the speed limit in the remaining section of Abinger Lane should be reduced to 30mph.
