Catteshall Road and Lane safety and active travel proposals
Overview
Thank you for your interest in our proposals along Catteshall Road & Catteshall Lane.
These proposals form part of the Guildford to Godalming Greenway scheme. The scheme aims to deliver safer and more attractive walking, wheeling and cycling (active travel) infrastructure in the area.
Following an application to Active Travel England, Surrey County Council has secured funding to deliver a first phase of the Guildford to Godalming Greenway scheme. This includes these proposals along Catteshall Road and Catteshall Lane. Further information about the Guildford to Godalming Greenway and the full phase 1 scope is available to view at: Guildford to Godalming Greenway - improvements to active travel infrastructure - Surrey County Council
The proposals:
The design proposals along Catteshall Road and Catteshall Lane include the features listed below and shown in the plan also linked to below
- Plan- Cattehsall Road and Lane (PDF)
- A 20mph speed limit is proposed along Catteshall Road and Lane between the junction of Catteshall Road/A3100 Meadrow and the junction of Catteshall Lane/A3100 Flambard Way. This would also apply to the side roads off Catteshall Road and Catteshall Lane. 20mph speed limits can improve road safety and make walking, wheeling and cycling safer, easier and more pleasant. For further information about the benefits of 20mph schemes please see: The benefits of 20mph schemes - Surrey County Council
- It is proposed that Catteshall Road and Catteshall Lane are signed as an on-carriageway cycle route, connecting with the planned route along the A3100 to the north of Catteshall Road and the existing toucan crossing on A3100 Flambard Way which leads to Godalming town centre. There would be no marked cycle lanes as there is insufficient width.
- Raised tables are proposed to replace the existing road cushions, apart from the pair of cushions between Blackburn Way and Lammas Road which will be replaced by a 20mph speed limit roundel road marking. Additionally, 2 new raised tables are proposed between Langham Park and the Catteshall Lane/Woolsack Way roundabout. These interventions are proposed to support the proposed 20mph speed limit and provide safer and more comfortable conditions for walking, wheeling and cycling.
- Improvements are proposed to pedestrian crossing points. Dropped kerbs and tactile paving are proposed at all side road junctions and existing crossing points where they are currently absent. Two new uncontrolled crossing points are also proposed on Catteshall Road, including where the River Wey towpath meets Catteshall Road. In this location a build out is proposed to improve visibility for pedestrians.
- Double yellow lines are proposed in the locations shown on the plan. This includes three locations to maintain carriageway width for two vehicles, including buses, to pass each other. Catteshall Road and Catteshall Lane is a bus route and these proposed parking restrictions are to mitigate delays to buses caused by parked vehicles. Double yellow lines are also proposed on lengths of the northern side of Catteshall Lane to formalise parking on one side of Catteshall Lane only.
