Overview

Thank you for your interest in our Speed Limit proposals in Fairoak Lane and Heath Road, Oxshott.

The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.

The proposal:

It is proposed that the existing national (60mph) speed limit on the B280 Fairoak Lane, Oxshott between current 40mph approximately 170m east of the Junction with Stokesheath Road and the Surrey County boundary with the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames will be reduced to 40mph. This is a length of approximately 1,440m.

It is proposed that the existing national (60mph) speed limit on the D6861 Heath Road, Oxshott between the Junction. A244 Copsem Lane, Oxshott and B280 Fairoak Lane, Oxshott is reduced to 30mph. This is a length of approximately 520m.

Elmbridge Road Safety Working Group, which comprises of Surrey County Council Road Safety and Traffic Engineers along with Surrey Police Road Safety Traffic Management and Casualty Reduction Officers expressed concern that vehicle speeds were contributing to loss of control and other vehicle conflicts along both Fairmile Lane and Heath Road.

Speed surveys were conducted at three locations in Fairoak Lane and one location on Heath Road in June 2022. Mean vehicle speeds at all four locations comply with the current speed limit policy, Surrey County Council’s Policy Setting Local Speed Limits. Surrey Police support the speed limit reduction from 60mph to 40mph in Fairmile Lane and 60mph to 30mph in Heath Road.

Note: Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames have committee approval to reduce their section of national speed limit (60mph) in Fairoak Lane to 40mph between the Surrey County boundary and their 30mph speed limit, approximately 70m west Jct. Woodview. This is a length of approximately 475m.
