Gatton Park Road Redhill Speed Limit

Overview

Thank you for your interest in our speed limit proposals in Gatton Park Road, Redhill.

The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.

The proposal:

It is proposed that the existing 30mph speed limit on the A242 Gatton Park Road, Redhill is extended from its existing speed limit terminal signs located 19.5 metres south-west of junction with Colesmead Road, to existing Lamp Column 17 located approximately 56.5 metres south-west from the existing terminal point.

The regulations strongly recommend that a speed reducing feature should be used to ensure that, as far as possible, the speed limit is not exceeded when a vehicle meets the first road table. Therefore the proposed speed limit reduction along this length is to encourage lower vehicle speeds on the approach the proposed traffic calmed section of Gatton Park Road.

Speed limits can help to reduce accidents and improve safety for all road users. It has been shown that the slower a vehicle is travelling, then the less likelihood there is of a serious or fatal injury occurring. It is expected that by extending the existing 30mph limit that this will contribute to improving road safety and improving the environment in the vicinity.

Reigate and Banstead Local Committee approved this on 28 February 2022.
The above proposal will be advertised in the local press (The Surrey Advertiser). County and Borough Councillors, Parish Council and the Police will be consulted.
