Overview

Thank you for your interest in our width restriction proposals in Manor Road, Reigate.

The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.

The proposal:

It is proposed to install a 6’- 6’’ width restriction on Manor Road, Reigate between the junction with Nutley Lane/Somers Road/Pilgrims Way and the junction with Coppice Lane (private).

Local residents have raised concerns about HGVs driving down Manor Road from Somers Road and Nutley Lane, which then turn around at the Manor Road/Coppice Lane junction damaging the verge and private fences. These HGVs also park on Manor Road overnight, leaving litter and human waste. HGVs can also stop in Manor Road leaving their engines running, which increases air pollution.

Discussions have been ongoing over recent years between residents, Reigate & Banstead Borough Council and Surrey Police on what restrictions can be installed that would prevent HGVs parking overnight without disadvantaging residents who may also wish to park on-street at night. Various possible parking restrictions have been discussed, however any parking restrictions that apply late at night/early in the morning would not be effective because they would not be enforced by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council. It was therefore decided that a 6’- 6’’ width restriction (except for access), which would allow HGVs to access all of the residential properties as well as the Reigate Lawn Tennis Club, but prevent HGVs from parking overnight should be installed. This will enable Surrey Police to carry out enforcement on this width restriction late at night/early in the morning and will give them the powers to move on any HGVs that are parked.
