The Proposals
The design proposals along Oakdene Road, Mill Lane and A3100 Old Portsmouth Road include the features listed below and shown in the plan also linked to below.
Plan – Oakdene Road, Mill Lane & A3100 Old Portsmouth Road (PDF)
- A 20mph speed limit is proposed along Oakdene Road and Mill Lane. This would also apply to James Road. For information about the benefits of 20mph schemes please see: The benefits of 20mph schemes - Surrey County Council
- At the junction of Broadford Road and Oakdene Road it is proposed to widen the eastern footway on Oakdene Road and install a raised table on Oakdene Road. This will provide an improved and safer connection for pedestrians and cyclists between Oakdene Road and the existing shared footway/cycleway along Broadford Road. Oakdene Road and Mill Lane would also be signed as an on-carriageway cycle route connecting two existing cycle routes along Broadford Road and A3100 Old Portsmouth Road.
- At the side road junctions along Oakdene Road it is proposed to install dropped kerbs and tactile paving where currently absent to improve accessibility for pedestrians.
- It is proposed to widen the short length of shared footway/cycleway between Mill Lane and A3100 Old Portsmouth Road to provide more space for pedestrians and cyclists. Nearby it is also proposed to plant new trees and install benches.
- Safer crossings are proposed on the A3100. Signalised toucan crossings (for pedestrians and cyclists) are proposed to the north and south of the A3100/Astolat Way roundabout. On Astolat Way it is also proposed to widen the northern footway/cycleway and refuge island at the crossing point.
