Overview

Thank you for your interest in our speed limit proposals in Ockley Road, Beare Green and Beare Green Road/Stane Street, Ockley.

The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.

The proposal:

It is proposed to reduce the existing speed limit of 60mph & 50mph to a 40mph speed limit on the A29 Ockley Road / Beare Green Road / Stane Street, Ockley within Ockley Road between A24 Horsham Road (Beare Green roundabout) and between the existing derestricted / 50mph terminal signs on Beare Green Road, which is approx. 130 metres south of the junction with Henhurst Cross Lane and the existing derestricted / 30mph terminal signs on Stane Street, which is approx. 260 metres north of the junction with Coles Lane.

Surrey County Council engineers raised concerns about various collisions of trend, vehicle speeds and safety concerns within the derestricted (60mph) & 50mph sections of A29 Ockley Road / Beare Green Road / Stane Street. A speed limit assessment has been carried out on A29 Ockley Road / Beare Green Road / Stane Street following the processes set out in Surrey County Council’s Policy Setting Local Speed Limits. A reduction of the speed limit on A29 Ockley Road / Beare Green Road / Stane Street between the A24 Horsham Road (Beare Green roundabout) and the existing derestricted / 30mph terminal signs on Stane Street complies with the policy and is supported by Surrey Police. Mole Valley Local Committee agreed at their meeting on 9 December 2020 that the speed limit on A29 Ockley Road / Beare Green Road / Stane Street be reduced to 40mph.
