Reigate Road (A25) Brockham/Betchworth 40mph speed limit proposal

Overview

Thank you for your interest in our 40mph speed limit proposals in Reigate Road (A25) Brockham/Betchworth. 

The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.

The proposal:

It is proposed to reduce the existing speed 50mph speed limit to a 40mph speed limit on the following section of road:

D408 Reigate Road – from a point 25m north-east of the north-eastern kerb-line of Castle Gardens north-eastwards and then eastwards to a point 47.5m west of the intersection of the centre line of Tranquil Dale with the northern channel line of Reigate Road, a distance of approximately 3,220m

Brockham, Betchworth & Buckland Parish Councils have raised concerns about the 50mph speed limit on the A25 Reigate Road with the divisional member.  Speed limit assessments were carried out following the processes set out in Surrey County Council’s Policy Setting Local Speed Limits.  Surveys were carried out in two locations on the section of A25 Reigate Road between Castle Gardens and the junction with Station Road at the Betchworth roundabout in September 2018.  Surveys were carried out in one location on the section of the A25 Reigate Road between the junction with Station Road at the Betchworth roundabout and Tranquil Dale in May 2021 and also in September 2021.

A reduction in the speed limit of the section of road listed above complies with the policy and is supported by the Police.  Mole Valley Local Committee agreed at their meeting on 24 February 2021 that the speed limit of the A25 Reigate Road be reduced following the results of speed surveys carried out in September 2018.  Mole Valley Local Committee agreed at their meeting on 10 November 2021 that the speed limit be reduced from 50mph to 40mph in the section of the A25 Reigate Road, Betchworth between the junction of Station Road at the Betchworth roundabout and a point 47.5m west of the centre line of Tranquil Dale.
