School Lane Pirbright - Traffic Calming

Closed 23 Sep 2022

Opened 26 Aug 2022

Overview

Thank you for your interest in our Traffic Calming proposals in School Lane, Pirbright.

The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.

The proposal:

During the last financial year there have been a number of additional new requests for the introduction of a road table in certain roads, one of which was in School Lane. At the March 2022 Guildford Joint Committee meeting, members agreed to include this and several other road safety schemes in the 2022/23 programme.

Several site meetings were held between Surrey Highways Officers, the Parish Council and residents regarding road safety outside the school in recent years to investigate the current road safety issues. It was brought to the officers’ attention that people did not feel safe when crossing School Lane, especially during dropping off and picking up times and they were concerned regarding the speed of vehicles.

One of the proposals that has been agreed by all stakeholders was to install a road table on School Lane in the vicinity of the school.

Some drivers travelling from the westerly direction do not slow down when entering the 20mph speed limit zone. The installation of a road table will reduce the speed of vehicles in the vicinity of the school.

The above proposal will be advertised in the local press (The Surrey Advertiser). County and Borough Councillors, Parish Council, stakeholders and the police will be formally consulted.

If you would like to object, support, or comment on the proposal, please use the Online Survey linked at the bottom of the page, or alternatively, write to:
