Overview

Thank you for your interest in our 20mph speed limit proposals in The Avenue, Sunbury-On-Thames.

The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.

The proposal:

Surrey County Council is proposing to extend the existing Thames Street, Lower Sunbury 20 mph Zone on The Avenue, Lower Sunbury. (D6237) The Avenue, Sunbury on Thames - starting from a point in line approximately 28 metres north-west from the centre of its junction with C234 Thames Street (lighting column-1) continuing north-west to a point in line approximately 5m south-east from the centre of its junction with d6239 Saxonbury avenue (lighting column-3). total length = 75 metres.

Surrey County Council were asked to extend the existing 20mph Zone to include the parade of shops and businesses on The Avenue. The local residents are in favour of extending the 20mph zone as it will have a positive impact in terms of improving safety and safety and reducing vehicle speeds.

A speed survey was commissioned, and the results were compliant with Surrey County Council’s Setting Local Speed Limits Policy for a 20mph Zone. Spelthorne Joint Committee formally approved this on 21 March 2022. Therefore, Surrey County Council proposes the extension of the existing 20mph Zone on The Avenue via signs and road markings.
