Overview

Thank you for your interest in our 20mph Speed Limit proposals in The Cardinals, Tongham.

The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.

The proposal:

Surrey County Council is proposing to introduce a 20mph limit on the following roads detailed below:

• D631 South Side, Tongham – for its entire length (approx 104m)

• D631 West Ring, Tongham – for its entire length (approx 347m)

• D631 East Ring, Tongham – for its entire length (approx 177m)

• D631 North Side, Tongham – for its entire length (approx. 670m)

Reasoning

The proposed speed limit adjustment on the above roads is to encourage lower vehicle speeds and reduce the severity of collisions by lowering the speed limit from 30mph to 20mph. Local representation has suggested that a reduction in speed of traffic through the area would be beneficial in terms of promoting safer roads and is supported by the local community.

This scheme is being promoted to help improve road safety and accessibility for all road users, including pedestrians and cyclists accessing St Pauls Infant School.

Speed surveys were commissioned, and the results were compliant with Surrey County Council’s Setting Local Speed Limits Policy for a 20mph speed limit.

Delegated approval to proceed with these proposals and the associated TRO has been received from the Highway Engagement & Commissioning Manager on 17th November 2023.

If you would like to object, support, or comment on the proposal, please use the Online Survey linked at the bottom of the page, or alternatively, write to:
