Thorpe and Chertsey Speed Limit Reduction Proposals
Overview
Thank you for your interest in our speed reduction proposals oneB388 Thorpe Road , Mill House Lane, Thorpe By-Pass, Thorpe (between Chertsey at the south and Thorpe Lea at the north) and D3199 Mill Lane,Thorpe.
The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.
The proposal:
It is proposed to reduce the existing derestricted speed limit lengths of B388 Thorpe Road / Mill House Lane / Thorpe By-Pass and to reduce the existing derestricted speed limit length of D3199 Mill Lane to a 40mph speed limit.
The proposed reduced 40mph speed limits on the B388 would be from 102 metres north of the roundabout junction with A320 Staines Road, Chertsey and extend north to a point which is approximately 130 metres south-west of Ten Acre Lane, Thorpe Lea.
The existing National Speed Limit on the B388 Thorpe Road north of the roundabout junction with the A320 Staines Road for a distance of 102 metres to be reduced to 30mph.
The existing 40mph speed limit within B388 Thorpe By-Pass and Mill House Lane between points 91m south-east and at the roundabout junction with the B389 / D3176 Green Road, Thorpe would remain for providing continuity of speed limits.
The proposals also include reducing the derestricted speed limit to 40mph on the D3199 Mill Lane, Thorpe between a point 150m south-east of the junction with D3199 Green Road / Village Road and the junction with B388 Thorpe Road.
Surrey County Council engineers raised concerns about various collisions, vehicle speeds and safety concerns within the derestricted sections of B388 Thorpe Road / Mill House Lane / Thorpe By-Pass. A speed limit assessment has been carried out on the B388 between Chertsey at the south and Thorpe Lea at the north, and an assessment has been carried out on the D3199 Mill Lane, Thorpe following the processes set out in Surrey County Council’s Policy Setting Local Speed Limits. A reduction of the speed limit on B388 Thorpe Road / Mill House Lane / Thorpe By-Pass and D3199 Mill Lane complies with the policy and is supported by Surrey Police and Local Members to be reduced to 40mph.
