Upper High Street, Epsom prohibition of waiting proposal

Overview

Thank you for your interest in our parking proposals in High Street, Epsom.

The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.

The proposal:

Statement of Reasons for Proposing to Prohibit the Waiting at Any Time and The Removal Of Parking Bays On Upper High Street Epsom

The changes to parking restrictions and bus cages on Upper High Street between property numbers 45 and 59 are required to facilitate a new bell mouth access and associated right turn lane to a Lidl store that has planning permission.

An existing west bound bus cage is being moved 105 metres from opposite 59 High Street to opposite 45 High Street. This is because if a bus were to stop in its current location drivers leaving the proposed access would have restricted sight lines due to a waiting bus letting passengers on and off.

The current east bound bus stop outside 45 High Street is being moved because two buses cannot stop next to each other due to carriageway capacity. Therefore this bus stop is being moved 105 metres further west.

The above changes would require changes to double yellow line and parking bays to facilitate the right turn lane to the new access.

The two bus stop relocations would be notified to affected neighbours and this would be done separately to the parking restriction changes.
