Overview

Thank you for your interest in our 20mph speed limit and traffic calming proposals in White Rose Lane, Bylands and Rosewood, Woking.

The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.

The proposal:

The Countywide ITS programme was established as part of a range of proposals to support Members in having more influence on promoting schemes that would benefit their residents. Under these new proposals, Members can prioritise and promote one scheme for consideration within their division per year. This scheme was nominated by the County Councillor due to concerns raised about the speed of vehicles and safety along White Rose Lane.

A technical assessment was then carried out which showed that it would be feasible to reduce the speed limit along the road from 30mph to 20mph with the inclusion of some further traffic calming so as to meet the regulatory spacing between traffic calming features.

It has been shown that the slower a vehicle is travelling, then the less likelihood there is of a serious or fatal injury occurring. It is expected that the proposed speed limit reduction to a 20mph speed limit will contribute to improving road safety. The proposed additional traffic calming measures support this lower speed limit.

Installation of a 20mph speed limit and traffic calming measures. This scheme was nominated by the County Councillor for funding from the Integrated Transport Scheme budget due to concerns about vehicle speeds and road safety. Due to the existing mean vehicle speeds traffic calming measures are needed to ensure that the 20mph speed limit is self-enforcing.
