Overview

Thank you for your interest in our Traffic Calming Measure proposals in Board School Road, North Road, Courtenay Road and Omega Road, Woking.

The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.

The proposal:

D3665 COURTENAY ROAD, WOKING

Proposed speed tables at the crossroads junctions of D3665 Courtenay Road, D3663 Board School Road and D3665 North Road and at the crossroads junction with D3665 Courtenay Road and D3666 Omega Road.

STATEMENT OF REASONS

The proposed speed tables at the crossroads junction of D3665 Courtenay Road, D3663 Board School Road and D3665 North Road and at the crossroads junction with D3665 Courtenay Road and D3666 Omega Road are intended to reduce the number and severity of personal injury collisions that have taken place at these locations.

Many years ago, in an attempt to address a similar problem, the priorities at the junctions were changed such that traffic on Board School Road and Courtenay Road had to give way to traffic on North Road and Omega Road. More recently, the Give Way signs at each junction were made more conspicuous but there have still been occasions when drivers on Board School Road and Courtenay Road have failed to give way and collisions have occurred. In the last five-year period, six personal injury collisions have taken place, 3 at each crossroads, resulting in 6 slight injuries and 1 serious injury.

Resident concern remains about safety at these junctions, with requests for action to be taken to improve them. The raised tables are intended to do that by emphasising the need for traffic on Board School Road and Courtenay Road to give way and by reducing the speed of vehicles on all approaches to the crossroads junctions
