North East Surrey Short Stay School

Overview

Surrey County Council and North East Surrey Secondary Short Stay School have been working together to look at the need to provide suitable alternative provision for pupils at risk of exclusion from mainstream school within Spelthorne borough.

Our proposal is that North East Surrey Secondary Short Stay School relocates from its current location at West Hill, Epsom KT19 8HR to Stanwell New Road, Staines TW18 4HZ with effect from April 2015.

The current capacity of the North East Surrey Short Stay School will not change, and the school's other site at 174 Molesey Road, Hersham KT12 4QY will remain.  Both sites will have overall capacity for 60 full time equivalent places spread between both sites; the Stanwell New Road site will accommodate a maximum of 35 students.

We are proposing that these changes take effect from April 2015.

The building is suitable with some minor adaptations and is in the right location for  51% of the current roll that lives in the Spelthorne locality.

Secondary age students are encouraged to travel to school independently, and as a large proportion of the existing students live within the borough, it is anticipated that the relocation will reduce traffic in Surrey and will meet demands of parents who generally prefer their young people to be educated close to home.
