We asked

We asked for your views on our proposal to change the age range and to increase pupil numbers at The Hythe Primary School. These plans were for implementation in September 2018.

A total of seven responses were received during the consultation period which closed at midday on Friday 25 May 2018. Six agreed and one disagreed with the proposal. The response which disagreed with the proposal raised matters relating to additional speech and therapy provision, as well as the lack of a dedicated space for therapy to take place.

During the consultation period a public meeting was held at the school on Tuesday 8 May 2018. No one attended this meeting.

We did

As a result of the consultation process it has been decided to proceed with the proposals and the statutory notice will be issued on Monday 4 June 2018. This will give a further 4 week period for interested parties to make representations.

Following this period it is planned that a paper detailing the proposal and consultation outcomes will be presented to the Cabinet Member for Learning in July for a decision.

Overview

Surrey County Council, in liaison with The Hythe Primary School, is proposing to extend the age range of the specialist centre for pupils with Learning and Additional Needs (LAN)  and high Communication and Interaction Needs( high COIN) in order to align the SEND offer with the school age range. The Harbour Centre will no longer cater for a specific need, but will become a ‘Specialist Centre’ for both LAN and high COIN children across the primary age range. This means that the school would be able to accommodate pupils from Reception year who could then stay at the school until the end of year 6, if their needs are still able to be met by the school.

It is proposed that the number of places changes from the current total of 12 planned places (notionally 3 per year group in key stage 2 only) to 25 (notionally 3 per year group for key stage 1 and 4 per year group at key stage 2). This will enable the provision to remain sustainable, to meet local demand and for it to match the age range of the rest of the school. These changes would come into effect from 1st September 2018.

Surrey County Council and the specialist centre at The Hythe Primary School would like to seek your views on this proposal.  The consultation will open on 1st May 2018.

A public meeting is planned at The Hythe Primary School on Tuesday 8th May 2018 at 2pm.

All are welcome to attend.
