Ambleside Avenue, Walton - Raised Zebra Crossing Proposal

Closed 21 Jul 2023

Opened 23 Jun 2023

Overview

Thank you for your interest in our raised zebra crossing proposals in Ambleside Avenue, Walton.

The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.

The proposal:

It is proposed to provide a zebra crossing in Ambleside Avenue, Walton-on-Thames, between the junctions of Rodney Road and The Furrows.

The Zebra crossing will be on a raised table with anti-skid surfacing on the approaches to the crossing.

The scheme has been progressed in response to a petition requesting a pedestrian crossing in Ambleside Avenue that was presented to Elmbridge Local Committee in November 2021. Surrey County Council applied to Elmbridge Borough Council for Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funds to be awarded to finance the new crossing. On 4th July 2022 CIL was granted for the design and construction of a raised Zebra Crossing on Ambleside Avenue.

The scheme aims to promote a safer environment and to reduce the conflict between vehicles and pedestrians. It is anticipated that particular benefits would be for child and adult pedestrians walking and cycling to and from Walton Oak Primary School, Walton-On-Thames.
