Overview

Thank you for your interest in our Continuous Pedestrian Footway proposals in Knapp Road, Ashford.

The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.

The proposal:

This proposal is to install Road Safety and Pedestrian Improvements at Knapp Road to encourage sustainable modes of transport and reduce the volume of motor vehicles in the vicinity of Clarendon Primary School entrance via:

Road Table – on Knapp Road, with reduced carriageway width to decrease traffic speed and enhance pedestrian safety (children walking, cycling and wheeling to Clarendon Primary School).

Copenhagen Crossing – on Knapp Road junction with Village Way to reinforce the rules of the Highway Code and give priority to pedestrians at side roads.

A new raised junction table on Knapp Road at its junction with Village Way to enhance the exisitng pedestrian route in the area and improve pedestrian safety.

Reasons

The two measurues will help reduce vehicle speeds, improve safty and accessibility for all road users including pedestrians and cyclists accessing Clarendon Primary School.

To encourage alternative and healthier options for local travel and support sustainable travel.
