Oriental Road Woking - Puffin Pedestrian Crossing

Overview

Thank you for your interest in our Puffin Pedestrian Crossing proposals in Oriental Road Woking.

The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.

The proposal:

For several years, we have had an item on our Highway Improvement work programme to provide a pedestrian crossing on Oriental Road in the vicinity of Onslow Crescent, following requests from parents of pupils of St Dunstan’s Roman Catholic Primary School.

Since the item has been on our work programme, we have continued to receive requests for a crossing and the County and Borough Councillors who make up the Woking Joint Committee agreed to include this item in our 2021/22 work programme for construction.

You will be aware that there are two junctions with Onslow Crescent on Oriental Road but western most junction, nearest the railway station car park access, has been identified as the location that is likely to be of most use to the school.  The pedestrian crossing will, of course, be of use to all pedestrians and fits in with our aim of improving pedestrian infrastructure and encouraging more walking.

We have developed a design for a signal controlled “Puffin” crossing, located between the Onslow Crescent junction and the station car park access and we are currently advertising our intention to construct this crossing, which is the reason for us writing to you.  A copy of the public notice advertising this intention is included for your information and would ask you to use the consultation webpage address contained in that notice to make any comment or representation about this proposal.
