Park Road, Stanwell - Waiting Restrictions and Traffic Calming

Overview

Thank you for your interest in our Waiting Restrictions and Traffic Calming proposals in Park Road, Stanwell .

The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.

The proposal:

The Park Road Cycle scheme involves the creation of a shared use (pedestrian/cyclist) cycle path linking the Stanwell Moore Road shared use facility to Town Lane shared use pedestrian and cycle route. Phase 1, from Stanwell Moore Road to Gibson Place, was completed in the first half of 2021 as part of the Wider Staines Sustainable Transport Package. Phase 2 involves the creation of a shared use pedestrian and cycle facility between Gibson Place and is currently under construction.

The Stage 2 Road Safety Audit for Phase 2 observed that vehicles traverse the kerbs and over-run the verges when entering and existing the side road junctions (i.e. Gibson Place Roberts Close, Park Road Service Road and Gleneagles Close) and that such vehicles may enter the adjacent shared footways when turning. It further observed that vehicles traversing the proposed road tables at the junctions when turning may over-run the tactile paving of the uncontrolled pedestrian/cyclist crossings and the damaged/displaced tactile paving will create a hazard to all users of the shared footway.

On checking the turning circles (vehicle swept paths) of all expected vehicles entering and existing each of the affected side road junctions it was realised that parked vehicles in the vicinity of the side road junctions were partly responsible for the over-running of the kerbs and verges.

Consequently, the scope of works for Phase 2 includes:

1) The adjustment of bell-mouth radii and the introduction of waiting restrictions (double yellow lines) in the vicinity of the Gibson Place and Roberts Close junctions.

2) The introduction of waiting restrictions only in the vicinity of the Park Road Service Road and Gleneagles Close junctions

The above-mentioned measures are to enable all expected vehicles to enter/exit the side road junctions without traversing the kerbs/shared footway and thus protect pedestrians and cyclists waiting to cross the access roads.
Please see Drawings attached which show the locations of the waiting restrictions and road tables.
