Squires Bridge Road Shepperton - Raised Puffin Crossing

Closed 8 Apr 2022

Opened 11 Mar 2022

Overview

Thank you for your interest in our raised puffin crossing proposals in Squires Bridge Road, Shepperton.

The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.

The proposal:

Surrey County Council are currently undertaking statutory consultation of changes to the pedestrian crossing facilities and traffic calming measures in the vicinity of the junction of Spelthorne Lane, Ashford Road and Charlton Road, Shepperton.

The changes form part of a wider scheme to improve traffic capacity at the junction and improve the safety of pedestrians on Squires Bridge Road. The main works will comprise of the replacement of the existing priority T-junction of Squires Bridge Road with a roundabout. The scheme was approved by Spelthorne Borough Council Planning Committee in February 2019 as one of the mitigation measures for the impact of the expansion of Shepperton Studios (Planning Application: 18/01212/OUT).

The statutory consultation being undertaken relates to the minor relocation of the existing signalised pedestrian crossing, which will move approximately five metres from its current position and be placed on a new raised table. The raised table will help reduce speeds on the entry and exit of the roundabout and improve accessibility for pedestrians.
