The Chase, Guildford - Zebra Crossing Proposal
Overview
Thank you for your interest in our zebra crossing proposals on The Chase, Guilford.
The legislation we must follow before introducing this scheme means that we need to allow objections and comments from the public to be considered before a final decision is reached about whether or not to go ahead with our preferred scheme in its current form.
The proposal:
It is proposed to provide a zebra crossing on The Chase, Guildford, between the junctions of Benbrick Road and St. John’s Road. The zebra crossing will be positioned between these two junctions with anti-skid surfacing on both approaches to the crossing. There will be slight adjustments to Benbrick Road with the removal of an existing island and an uncontrolled crossing place on St. John’s Road with central island improvements.
The proposed Zebra Crossing point is a desirable location to cross the road and apart from pupils going to the school, during dropping off and picking up times, people use it during the day. There is already a pedestrian island with dropped kerbs on either side of the road, at the junction with St. John’s Road. However, a zebra crossing will be an improved crossing facility, especially for people with pushchairs and mobility scooters. There is a northbound slip road into St John’s Road, which makes the crossing hazardous. It is proposed to close this slip road as there is another turning, further up the road, into St John’s Road from The Chase.
