Why we are consulting

Now children have returned to school, typically roads in the immediate vicinity to schools will be particularly busy at drop-off and pick-up times. There is usually a high concentration of vehicles, pedestrians, cycling and scooting activity which can cause frustration.

We are undertaking this survey, soon after children have returned to school, so we can rapidly gather key information which will provide us with the ability to understand what our priorities should be when we consider how we can improve the roads and footways around schools, and how we encourage walking, cycling, scooting, and parking and striding.

Surrey County Council’s Safer Travel Team want to encourage more walking, cycling, scooting and parking and striding to school. This is better for children’s health and wellbeing, reducing congestion and improving the environment. The Safer Travel Team would like to understand how children travel to school so we can provide more support in terms of initiatives and upgrades that allow for more children to walk, cycle, scoot or park and stride to school.

Your feedback will be vital in helping improve pupils' journeys to school.
